The great Disappearing Act

Today was a great sewing day..mail day but not so much movie day!

In the mail this morning I received this! Bought Here....I notice the price has dropped by 2p!!

The Older Giant and I sat and watched Haywire. To be fair I thought with the glowing reviews that it would be much better. My rating for it is 2 out of 5. For all movies I see I'd say watch them for yourselves and see whether or not you like it. It might be your kind of movie or it may not be.

After the movie I finally made a start on the Disappearing 16 patch quilt I've had sitting for some time waiting to be sewn (cough since march cough!) I had all the blocks made and the sashing all prepared...I was just busy making other things....So here is the first quilt top

I have another one to do, the blocks are cut as well as the sashing for the blocks....just not to go around it. I thought not going with too much white. The blue fabric is a bed sheet I got at a charity shop. The white is actually also a bed sheet! (yes at times I can be a cheapskate!).

It went together pretty quickly. Gotta love chain piecing. I'll maybe have it backed and ready for quilting by the end of the week....but most of you know me by now and I like to have various projects on the go!
I'm making another quilt for myself as I still have some MAM prints left....I may also make a scrappy bag too....and a pouch to go inside the bag.....So if anyone has some great bag tutorials they'd like to share it would be much appreciated =D

Happy International Mother's day!

Our Mother's day was in March! So I'm wishing A Happy Mother's day to all The international mother's out there!

Today was another finish day for me! I seem to be on a roll this month! I got the bag and my cushion cover finished!
The bag with the original and the cushion! ( oh and my green beach chair!)

The backing for the cushion isn't quite large enough, but it's behind my back, so only you and I will know Shhhhhhh!!
The bag was actually fun to make. I roughly traced around the actual bag then neatened up the edges. I had to guess with the flap as it was a shell sort of shape.
The longest part was the flap as I had to hand-sew the overlapping piece. down. You know the score with Jano, though he worked when sewing it to the actual bag! I used some stiff fabric my father brought me today in replacement of wadding/interfacing. It worked really well, better than the two in my opinion.
I lined it with a cream bed sheet. I admit, I forgot all about the handles until I'd almost sewn up the bag! So I quickly had to make some and attach them, but next time I'll position them better and make them slightly longer. The bag sits just on my rib cage. I happen to have a longer torso than most so next time I'll have it so it rests on my hip at least. Then it should be just perfect for someone shorter.
I love the fabric though! The colour of it and the feel of it is so soft!
It's a spacious small bag actually. I'll make some more eventually to sell. I might possibly make some scrappy patchwork ones too.
So that's an idea for you. Instead of buying a new bag make a copy of one you love!

Just enjoyed a slab of cake! Yum =D

Saturday night.dee dee dee da da da da dum...

It seems like the weeks are going by so quickly these days! I spend a lot of time sewing which seems to take up most of my week and I wouldn't have it any other way!

So today I got this in the mail and able to start stuffing my Owls
Excuse the mess my room has a variety of odd things lazing about.

Stuffing!! I think another bag has yet to arrive

Awesome hairstyle right?!

12 little owlies! (with my laptop case in the back)
So that's 12 owls done! I must admit I got distracted watching some recordings (love the TiVo box) of Masterchef Australia, but instead of watching it I took the owls with me and sewed down the feet and beaks as some were peeling off!! I then stitched up the turning gap and finished them up after dinner. They vary in size some are smaller, but still soooo cute! I'll be sad to see them go...Think I'll make an extra one just for me!

Also through the letter box a card from the post office. There is apparently a parcel waiting for me, which has actually made it to the UK! Only I have to pay customs charges to get it sent to me! Strange times!

I've been wanting to make a bag/purse with handles for quite some time now. I've been scouring the net for some inspiration and tutorials. I found a few I loved, but had to pay for. Then I remembered I have this bag. It surprisingly can hold a lot of items, for it's size...(I happen to be the master of making things fit!)
So I thought hey maybe I can make a replica, as the inside of the bag seems to be falling apart ^_~

The cute inside fabric

The falling apart at the seams!
My Father got me that coral/terracotta coloured fabric..I don't know if it's cotton or linen type material. It's got a pearl shine on one side and the other is dull.? I like it though so I'm going to use that to make up the outside and find another fabric for the inside.
If all goes well I'll make a few more. I'll have to draw around the bag and add some inches...then improvise on the flap as it's pleated, but it should work out...she says hopefully.

So stay tuned to see how that works out. =D

That Friday feeling!

I think today was rather busy, yet super relaxed for me! Which makes a change since I'm always busy sewing. Today was a mix of washing-Clothes- Cooking-Lunch and dinner- Hand Sewing!
(Dinner was handmade Jamaican Curried beef patties! If you'd like the recipe let me know.)

So I rescued the owls from the airing cupboard and actually remembered to take some pictures. They are so cute. I've ordered some stuffing (from eBay), which will arrive sometime next week..once it gets here they can be stuffed sewn and done!

I did think about binding the granny quilts then hand quilting, but I thought the hand-stitching may distort the quilt. So quilting first binding after. I went with echo quilting around each block. I started with the brown/black blocks first, as I already had brown perle. I've done the blocks on both. Now onto the red/yellow/orange....I have red perle for them.

The lobster clips I ordered came today,  as I was inspired to make up some key fobs/pouches in the near future. All thanks to the RATZ Swap

Reading through the blogs as I do each night I came across this

There and Back

I'll be joining in courtesy of my recent love for hand-stitching!.
Hop over to This post I have an idea for a swap and would like to see if anyone would be interested in joining it.
