Keeping things Chilled

So lately I've been feeling really tired and like I have no energy what so ever. I'm already anaemic, but thought I should maybe do something do give myself a boost. Mother Dearest got her blender out of the cupboard, so I thought making some smoothies would add a bit more fruit to my diet and get me away from snacking on rubbish. Father then went out and brought a Nutri Ninja!

So far so good this month in the smoothie world

Day 1.Berry Vanilla Smoothie- Nice, but I think I may sieve it next time as it was very seedy.....
Day 2&3. Pear, apple and Banana Smoothie (as I made toooo much) - may try without the banana next time round as although there is only 1 it overpowers the taste
Day 4.Apricot Smoothie -I used tinned apricots, but it doesn't have much flavour...tastes a little like ice cream....maybe next time I should use fresh ones?

So far I don't feel much difference, but the month is young and it is only week one!

I have also been using my colour therapy book I got for Christmas.

I do enjoy me some colouring.

Do you have any smoothie recipes that you love ?

I've had a SpringFling!

I feel like I haven't posted in forever!!! -Which is actually so true- I must make a vow to make more of an effort to post.

So on Instagram the greatest app since sliced bread- not that sliced bread is an app...but it could be- I joined the springfling mini swap. Some of you may have seen it, heard about it or even joined it yourself.

My partner was @jewelsap and my colour inspiration from her was that she liked teal, purple, aqua, burgundy, red and beige. I had to raid my stash to find the right colours and some fun prints. I made her a fun mini using the octagon shapes I'd been creating a while back...

I don't usually bind anything.... But I figured as it was a small quilt I'd make the extra effort to do so.

In return I received an awesome mini quilt from the amazing Donna Fletcher

How cool is that mini! Not even square but a Triangle. I love triangles! I have to decide which part of my wall to put it up on - along with the others....- but it will so be up there!!!!

There is still another swap the #UKMiniswap which I have shipped away..... So I will show that once my partner receives it....

All blocks are cut, sewn ironed, trimmed....I just need to decide which layout to do.... I have sketched out some layouts using that oh so wonderful graph paper!
Which one would you go for??? 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?

Keeping to my 3 quilts in progress is not enough.. nature I'm busy behind the scenes working on yet more projects...keeping busy is what I do best....All I can think about is sewing!!!

Colour Scheme- The not Quite Rainbow...

This Colour Scheme is to be the starter of my HST project also being tied in. I scoured the internet trawling through Pinterest boards like a crazed Quilter.... looking for eye catching HST designs. I sketched out a few on that funky graph paper (I once used to hate!)
I wasn't sure what to make at first with all the HST's I cut so I pondered for a while.....

Then Thought hmmmm ..they could possibly be coasters.....perhaps mini quilts, cushion covers.....pouches......HST hexies......

They are only 3" I thought pouches would look good....so got to sketching...

8 HSTS for the front 8 for the back....border with linen...... Then I remembered I have not got that much linen....and only 8" zippers...hmmmmm

The Purge

I'm pretty sure a horror movie was named after it......

the Purge

Rachel over at Stiched In Color is hosting a purge along. I'm totally joining. I probably haven't looked at all the fabrics in my stash since I got them to be honest. As you know I'm working on a colour project, but throwing some more things into the mix won't hurt.
Like Rachel I pulled out all the fabrics that I just wasn't feeling....

I then spotted the little sewing pouch Blogged About Here I'd made some years back and thought hmmmmm that pouch may be just the project......for the life of me could I find the templates!!! Um no..So I had to draft up some more....

Newspaper is not just for reading you know! I then sorted those fabrics into piles with some zippers....of which I need more of.....

The scraps will be put to use...or swapped....or hurled into a box until next year......

Colour Schemes- Citrus

Whilst flicking through my Love Patchwork and Quilting Magazine I found a quilt in the extra pull out from the ever so talented Jeni Baker!! That girl has some mad skills and has a real eye for colour! I saw this quilt and just new it would be perfect for this colour scheme. The quilt has a really cool effect once the blocks are put together. She has referenced hers as the flower power quilt displaying her Dreamin' Vintage Fabrics.
I got out my sketch pad a did some more of that Quilt Maths as I don't want my quilt to be quite as large. I'm Making mine 3 x 5. She originally used 7 1/2 " blocks with 4" white squares.
As I was using FQ's I realised it may not stretch enough and I wanted about 3 from each FQ so I scaled down to 7" blocks with 3 1/2" white squares.....I'm a Quilt Math genius!!!
I had a fairly large piece of white fabric and started cutting.....as I got to the end I realised I only had enough squares for 20 blocks! Unamused I went to hunt down more fabric and found some in a more translucent white I could use and just alternate the white....I started cutting that and only had enough for another 20 blocks....I couldn't find any more.... (or maybe I'm not looking hard enough...) So will perhaps buy a white sheet to use as all the other white I have looks cream/yellow....

Colour Schemes -Berry

For this quilt I wanted to do something to really show off the prints. I was umming and ahhing for quite some time before deciding to do a Triangle Quilt.
I grabbed some cardboard, stationary, my sketch pad and notebook and got to work on the Quilty Maths
The templates (ignore ones to right....)

Quilt Maths

Quilt layout plans...

More Quilty Maths....
Then was onto cutting the fabrics. I realised I had some Triangles left over from my Wedge Cushions so I took a few of them to use to boost my fabric selection...

So many scraps left over..but I have something planned for those...

So all fabrics and plans for this quilt are under way..

Quilt Colour Schemes part 2

Following on from Yesterday's Post I've been searching the internet for inspiration, flicking through magazines I had lying around as I was sure something about them caught my eye.

Some really grabbed my attention and then I decided to look through the 12 unopened packs of fabric from the two stash clubs I've joined. One is the Pink Castle Stash Stack Club and the other is the FabricShoppe Colour Your Stash Club. I then also found some other fabrics I had purchased that were already set in two colour ways.
After buying the latest copy of Love Patchwork and Quilting . Which is currently issue 10. I found some quilts I thought would go really well with the colour schemes I discovered.

Here are some colour combo's that will feature in my upcoming quilts and projects. The colours are just examples of the fabrics. Mind you I wont be using solids..... All fabrics however cane be found in the Fresh Modern Fabric Etsy Shop

The sketches for each project are already in progress. Templates have been made using some of my previous project designs. I thought about tutorials, but so many projects have been done, sold, chopped and changed, I thought why bother with the hassle.
I'll share the sketches once they are done. I even found graph paper to make them look all neat and professional...check me out! I bought some new colouring pencils and a ruler since mine broke in half....then I lost both halves....

So continue to watch this space.

Quilt Colour Scheme Help!!

Hi Everyone only me again.

I'm itching to make some more quilts and really need some help with some colour schemes. Grey is a colour I'm lacking in, but have managed to scrape together enough to make a grey, orange and blue quilt.

What colour schemes inspire you? Which ones do you just love? Please post your links in the comments to anything you have seen or made, as I could do with the inspiration.

Thanks

Charmed I'm sure

2 posts in two days...a new record for me at the moment. I said I had some behind the scenes projects to show and here is the start of them. A few weeks before the operation... I thought I should probably start using my fabric rather than storing it in the few too little boxes I have. I thought start slow then work up to the FQ's.......... so Charm squares it was...

I did some rough sketches knowing at least the colour scheme to each quilt...RAINBOW!!!

I like making even numbers of things and two just didn't feel ambitious enough at the time, so it became four. I did in the end change around some of the fabrics to make the colours stand out a lot better. Those sketches soon became quilt tops.

I did consider adding a border to the top edge, but upon choosing the backing fabrics I decided not to.

I also found some other quilts that needed finishing...remember these?

My DP16 quilt tops. I made them about TWO years ago and never actually finished them as I was going to do just a plain backing. Then decided against it. They are also on the WIP pile to actually finish.

I even found some other quilts also from two years ago that when I looked at them I realised I could never sell them as the binding looks horrendous! I wouldn't even be happy to give them to anyone as a gift.

I am thinking to chop off the borders and binding and re-backing them in another fabric, with no binding what so ever...... The first quilt in the top picture is yet to be finished...I'm still hand quilting it...some two years on.......it seemed like a brilliant idea then........

Decisions decisions....I'm hoping for some finishes this month. I have the backing fabrics for the Rainbow quilts and the DP16 quilts..alls needing is to finish them off!!

Also to finish is another sneaky project....

*giggle* Told you I was on a roll....
