August review!!

I still can't get over how quickly last month went. I mean seriously why is this year going by so quickly! Last month I got a lot of random projects done. As well as some cooking, some movie watching, some London Eye going on, the odd trips to the cinema, Volunteering (which I now realise is what took up my sewing time! FOOL!), a few swap goodies and giveaways. Plus a present for Mother.

Those purses from yesterday that I had a problem with the zippers. They are fully functionable, they can still open and close, the purse can still be used for a number of things as seen in the 3rd picture, Do I sell them still as they are? thoughts please....

I then got on with the not so mammoth task of cutting my beloved fabrics

Then sketching out a design for the quilt I plan to make...this is not finished yet....

As well as making up my own paper pieced blocks from patterns slightly smaller/larger than the size I've made them to (8" x 9") I'll get those sewn up tomorrow

This month has started well already.  A new project. A new job starting Monday....which will sadly effect my sewing time, but I should still get things done during the 'free hours' if I plan my time accordingly. Tis the Younger Giant's birthday this month.....I think a large pillow for his bed lounging is in order!....I should probably make the Older Giant one too....

Counting to 10

So my day started off not too bad. I got to town earlier than planned and was able to buy some new shoes for £2.50! as the insoles on the ones I've been wearing for literally just this week, decided to unpeel! It's rather odd and my other shoes from the same shop are still in great condition. I've had the shoes for maybe a year now and have only really worn them this week.....why the insoles busted I shall never know....
So I got to my signing on thingy and the woman was rude! I had written some things for the day I had signed 2 weeks back and she told me they didn't count! I thought to myself "How can you tell me that? If I sign on at 10am and get jobs applications from them, which I go home and apply for how can it not be written on my list? Do I have to wait a whole day before I can add them for them to 'count' as you say!" She said if I do that again there may be consequences! FUME!

Anyway I left still keeping my cool and briefly went around town again to pick up a few things I needed before jumping on the bus (That I thought I was going to miss as I often do!) and heading to my placement.
I got to design some leaflets today for an event going down in August (which I forgot to take one home with me.....) I grabbed some Caribbean food from the Cafe on site which is open Wednesdays-Saturdays. The food was gooooood!

Upon getting back home I dumped all the junk from my bag out and took off all the badges ready for it to go in the washing machine (which is long overdue!) The bag I bought from Accessorize some many moons ago, the paint work is my own and the badges have been collected the past two maybe 3 years.....(If you have some you would like to donate drop me a comment =D)

The bag is now hung in the conservatory and may be dry by the time I need it tomorrow...if not then err I'll have to fish out another bag.....

After some TV watching, catching up on some new episodes of my shows, I went to do some more diamond basting. As well as making dinner. I made some potato wedges which were so nice I went back for seconds....mainly due to the fact even though there were a only few potatoes they made enough wedges to fit 2 large trays worth!

How I love basting....Still have more to go then 2 sets of hexies....watch this blog!

Quilty Little Secret!

This morning I had to get up early (BAH!) and leave the house to go into town. The upside I went out for Lunch with the Older Giant to The Toby Carvery. We printed off a voucher so we could get our meals slightly cheaper. Though the actual price is decent. The main meal is £5.95, drinks and such are extra. They carve your meat for you then you can take unlimited veg, Yorkshire puddings(which are huge!) and stuffing. We went for the kingsize option which is £1.50 extra. You get more meat and 2 chipolata sausages. Now I wish I had bought my camera with me!

I got all the packages I needed to send off posted! So whoever I owe a package too in less than two weeks expect something through your mail box.

Upon getting home I was distracted reading a book, which I had bought with me for the bus journey. I was hand quilting then reading, then back to hand quilting. I had only 2 blocks left to do, but with the reading it took a while to finish.

The Culprit!

The quilt with finished quilting. I went around the squares in each Granny Block

I actually really love this quilt and am glad it will be staying in the house! The prints took me sometime to get(after a missing order)...which you can find on this page. All I have to do is the binding and make a label to go on the back, then convince the Giants to sign it..and Mother....

Hand quilting is actually really relaxing. One day I'll try using Jano for this job, but until that day comes it's the good old needle and Perle.

Wooooo two more FINISHES!!!

I'm so happy to get things finished. Cross them off my list and pull out a few more projects to begin.
I'd like to say hand binding is actually fairly relaxing....Jano did the top....with a few moody moments and I did the back =D

Both quilts measure 21x32"...well about that give or take an inch. The fabrics used are random ones I got in a bundle. I couldn't tell you the designers...you can see them on my bought fabrics page. The backing is a two-sided bed-sheet
Picture time!!

Quilt 1. Outside was drizzling so I stayed in the conservatory and pinned it up with clothes pegs to the blinds.

Quilt 2. This was the one Jano hated...you'll see some close ups soon.

The detail mosaic.
1. My hand sewn back binding
2.The detail hand sewing of the 2 middle blocks quilt 1
3. Perfect corners! (yes I had to read like 3 different tutorials!)
4. The detail hand quilting on the two middle blocks quilt 2
5. The corner thanks to Jano, I had already sewn the other side to unpick it would have been a nightmare!
6. Quilt 1 binding. Folded
7. Quilt 2 binding. Rolled

Yes I imagine if the quilt was bigger the rolled effect would look so much better! I have some bigger quilts in the making!
So now this is my current list of WIPs
D16 quilt..one more to sew into a top. I like working in pairs.
The last charm quilt to quilt and bind-binding is made!
My MAM hexie project....unloved and neglected....oh dear
Disappearing granny blocks which will eventually become mug rugs.

I also have my BOM block to do......yeah....
