There was frustration! Jano was being his moody self once again. There I was trying to machine bind one of the Granny quilts. Would he cooparate! NO! It took me a good hour just to sew on the front. The thread kept breaking, or coming out of the lever arm. I even had to cut all the binding off and start again! I was not amused. I had to unpick some of it. I really felt like throwing him out of the window! I gave up after a while and hand sewed the rest on....so it's half machine, half hand bound...I'll show you proper pictures tomorrow....for now I'll leave you with these happy pictures!
I had to make more binding thanks to Jano!
During the binding process was round two of fabric dyeing with tea/coffee. The Older Giant kindly left his tea bag for me to use. I threw some coffee into the tub and a fruit(sorrel and ginger) tea bag in too. I placed the fabric in to take on some of the colour of the fruit tea bag then added more water.
I sprinkled some coffee granules over the top of the fabric and
With the binding getting on my nerves I went to check the fabric. Rinsed then washed it with some soap powder and fabric softener.
I had to rinse it a few times as there was soap powder still on the fabric! Eventually
An hour or so later the fabric was dry....I soaked it in cold water and a teaspoon or so of vinegar for 20mins or so, to set the colour in. Rung it out then back into the conservatory to dry.
After dinner I took them up to iron...they smell of fruity coffee...
You can see the difference in shade. It's hard to see in these pictures, but where the fruit tea bag/coffee granules rested there are some darker blotches and patches on the fabric and a scattered speckle effect too.
I'm happy with how they turned out and they are ready for the next step.
